Perkins & Tubbs Will Bring the Fireworks in August

Melrose, MA (July 11, 2022) – Boston Boxing Promotions has announced a six-round super middleweight fight to take place on Saturday, August 13th at Melrose Memorial Hall in Melrose, Massachusetts as Lynn’s undefeated James Perkins (8-0-1, 6 KO’s) takes on Oxnard, California’s David Tubbs (5-1, 5 KO’s) in a bout that is expected to produce fireworks.

Doors are scheduled to open at 5 pm on August 13th with first fight taking place at 6 pm. Tickets for the event are on sale now at

Perkins, fresh off a “New England Fight of the Year” candidate earlier this year against Stephen Langlais (4-2, 3 KO’s), which he won via unanimous decision, will be fighting in his home state for the first time since his pro debut in 2019. He trains with Joe Ricciardi at Broadway Boxing in Everett. Ricciardi also works with former world title challenger Greg Vendetti (23-4-1, 12 KO’s).

Tubbs, known for his all-action style, is no stranger to New England fight fans having earned crushing KO victories over fallen foes on Boston Boxing Promotions events in New Hampshire. He is also no stranger to scoring knockdowns and getting up from knockdowns himself and has never been involved in anything remotely resembling a boring fight. He trains with Joseph “Hoss” Janik at Knuckleheadz gym in Ventura, California. Janik has also trained former world champions Andrew Cancio and Victor Ortiz.

“I’m excited to be making my debut in the super middleweight division and against someone as strong and respected as David Tubbs,” said Perkins.  “I’m also thrilled the fight is going to be at Melrose Memorial Hall. I’ve never fought there but have gone to boxing events there and I love the set-up and atmosphere.”

David Tubbs is just as enthusiastic.

“A fight against an undefeated and talented young fighter like James Perkins is exactly what I’ve been waiting for,” said Tubbs.  “Knowing both of our styles, I have a feeling our fight will steal the show.”
