Boston Boxing Promotions has announced that on Friday May 23rd at Melrose Memorial Hall in Melrose, Massachusetts, Ventura, California’s Chris Jay (2-0, 1 KO) will take on Vermont’s Bruce Richards in a 4 round super welterweight fight.
Jay last fought in November 2023 winning a 4 round unanimous decision over New York’s Kreaton Crouse. He made his pro debut in 2021 with an opening round stoppage over Tom Kenney. He is best known outside of boxing circles for being the lead singer of Pop-Punk band Army of Freshman and co-writer of the 2016 raunchy comedy film The Bet, which was the last motion picture appearance of pro wrestling legend Rowdy Roddy Piper. He is an ambassador for Contenders Clothing and is trained by Joe “Hoss” Janik who has worked with the likes of former world champions Andrew Cancio and Fernando Vargas.
Richards is a battle-tested combat sports veteran of the ring and cage who gave Jay’s teammate Kody Koboski a welcome to the pro ranks in 2021. He’s competed in boxing, mixed-martial-arts, and muay thai for a profusion of respected regional promotions. In 2020, he won the Fight Night Promotions lightweight championship over Luis Gomez in Muay-Thai fighting via first round TKO. He goes by the nickname “Braveheart.”
