PRO BOXING RETURNS TO FALL RIVER THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Fall River, MA (September 11, 2023)

Professional Boxing will make its long-awaited return to the Spindle City for the first time in 33 years when Boston Boxing Promotions brings an all-pro fight card to the Fall River Police Athletic League Hall this Saturday Night, September 16. Doors will open at 6 pm with a bell time of 7 pm.

In the main event of the evening, two Fall River natives will square off when Kyle Cusick takes on Johnny Kim in a four-round middleweight contest. It will be Kim’s first time ever fighting in Fall River. Cusick has not competed in his hometown since 2010 when he was in the Southern New England Golden Gloves as an amateur.

Another Fall River native will be featured on the card in the form of Stephen “Clubber” Langlais. 36-year-old Langlais has declared that this Saturday night will be his last trip to the ring as a competitor as he plans on retiring from the sport at the conclusion of the fight. He will meet Russ Kimber from Peabody in a six-round cruiserweight matchup.

Fall River resident Chris Aiello is scheduled to make his pro debut this Saturday night when he faces Aquilla Prote of Boston in a four-round heavyweight bout.

Also featured on the card will be undefeated Michael Christopher Ramirez of Simi Valley, California against Cortland, New York’s Mike Taylor, and Raidel Rodiguez of Santiago, Cuba by way of Seekonk as he meets Brandon Baue of St. Louis, Missouri.

The last pro card to take place in Fall River was in 1991 and featured future world title challenger Ray Oliveira of New Bedford and heavyweight Peter McNeeley, who four years later would set Pay-Per-View records for his fight against Mike Tyson in Las Vegas.

While the amateur boxing scene in Fall River has remained very active over the years, Boston Boxing Promotions will look to revive the pro scene starting with this Saturday’s card.

Pro boxing record keeping in Fall River dates back to 1885 when Canada’s George LaBlanche defeated New York’s Frank Bosworth in a β€œhard glove bout” as boxing was transitioning from bare knuckle bouts to fights where the competitors wore gloves. From the late 1800’s through the first half of the twentieth century, hundreds of pro boxing events took place in Fall River with the casino hosting weekly cards for long stretches of time.

“Fall River Brawl” will take place this Saturday, September 16. Doors will open at 6 pm at the Fall River PAL with first fight at 7 pm. Tickets are on sale now at www.BostonBoxingPromotions.com.  There will also be a live pay-per-view stream of the event at www.CombatSportsNow.com.
