FORMER TRAINING PARTNERS SET FOR EPIC HEAVYWEIGHT SHOWDOWN IN FALL RIVER

FORMER TRAINING PARTNERS SET FOR EPIC HEAVYWEIGHT SHOWDOWN IN FALL RIVER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fall River, MA (August 15, 2023) – Boston Boxing Promotions has announced an eight-round heavyweight fight for the “Fall River Brawl” on Saturday, September 16, at the Fall River PAL as Fall River’s own “Lethal” Jon Gruber (5-1, 2 KO’s) takes on Fall River-born Stephen “Clubber” Langlais (4-2, 3 KO’s) in a Spindle City showdown with battlelines that draw on friendship, competition, rivalry, loyalty and a myriad of conditions related to the human experience.

Tickets are available at www.BostonBoxingPromotions.com.

Gruber, coming off the two best wins of his pro boxing career earlier this year earning unanimous decision wins over Maine’s Justin Rolfe (7-5-1, 5 KO’s) and Lynn’s Dennis Ventura (5-3, 4 KO’s) in February and July respectively, probably would have thought that a fight with former teammate at Bernardo’s Boxing Stephen Langlais would be the last thing in the world to be next for him. However, when Langlais called Boston Boxing Promotions matchmakers to request the fight, the message was relayed and the fight was made in a moment.

“I took that request personally,” said Gruber. “He’s someone I called a friend and someone who I trained with and bled with. Now that I’m on a roll, he wants to fight me? I honestly couldn’t tell you why he would want this but I’m always down to fight so bring it.”

Langlais will be coming off over a year of inactivity entering this fight. The heaviest he’s ever competed at was cruiserweight prior to this bout. The all-action fighter known as “Clubber” has scored six knockdowns in his six-fight career and has been sent to the canvas three times himself, yet has gotten up all three times and even come back to win fights by knockout after tasting the mat. Previously training, alongside Gruber, under the guidance of Aaron Bernardo, Langlais is now training at Love’s Boxing in Fall River under the coaching of Mike Bryant. He intends on this being his farewell fight.

“Both Jon and I have trained together for years. Back when we were both competing in MMA out of the same gym,” said Langlais. “He’s a great fighter and it’s an honor to be able to compete in my last match with him. We’ve both gone through sparring battles in the gym but I haven’t had more fun sparring with anyone than I have throwing hands with him.   I couldn’t think of a better gym or Boxer to go out against than Jon and his team. I expect our match to be fireworks.”
