PRO BOXING RETURNS TO FALL RIVER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN DECADES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fall River, MA (August 14, 2023) – For the first time in over 30 years, professional boxing is coming to the city of Fall River on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Fall River PAL. The event will be presented by Boston Boxing Promotions. Doors will open at 6 pm with first fight taking place at 7 pm.

The card will feature a myriad of talent local and beyond. Tickets are available now at www.BostonBoxingPromotions.com.

“We’ve wanted to do something in Fall River for a long time,” said Boston Boxing Promotions President Peter Czymbor. “The pandemic and the fact that some of the original venues we had our eye on are now being renovated for other uses prolonged the process. However, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be coming to the PAL – a venue with a rich boxing history and a city with some talented fighters as well. We’re already aware the place won’t be big enough, so we encourage everyone to get their tickets as soon as possible.”

Boston Boxing Promotions fighters, and Fall River residents, heavyweight Jon Gruber (5-1, 2 KO’s) and middleweight Kyle Cusick (4-3, 1 KO) amongst others will be featured on the show. Fall River born Stephen Langlais (4-2, 3 KO’s) will be making a return to the ring. Additional fighters and individual fights will begin to be announced on Boston Boxing Promotions social media as soon as Tuesday.

The last pro card to take place in Fall River was in 1991 and featured future world title challenger Ray Oliveira of New Bedford and heavyweight Peter McNeeley, who 4 years later would set Pay-Per-View records for his fight against Mike Tyson in Las Vegas.

Pro boxing record keeping in Fall River dates back to 1885 when Canada’s George LaBlanche defeated New York’s Frank Bosworth in a “hard glove bout” as boxing was transitioning from bare knuckle bouts to fights where the competitors wore gloves. From the late 1800’s through the first half of the twentieth century, hundreds of pro boxing events took place in Fall River with the casino hosting weekly cards for long stretches of time.

Boston Boxing Promotions was founded in 2013 and is dedicated to the resurgence of professional boxing at the regional level, particularly in the New England area.
