Perez and Simms to Square Off on New Bedford Boxing Card

New Bedford, Massachusetts [October 13, 2016] – Boston Boxing promotions has announced another fight for its November 12th event at New Bedford High School in New Bedford, Massachusetts – the first pro boxing event held in The Whaling City in 20 years.

Lowell’s Jonathan Perez (2-0, 2 KO’s) will make his Massachusetts debut when he takes on New Jersey’s Malcolm Simms (pro debut) in a four-round featherweight matchup.

“I’m excited to be making my Massachusetts debut,” said Perez, “training has been hard and I’ve been getting good sparring for this fight with guys like Carlos Candelario. I’m excited to be staying so active since turning pro and look forward to a good fight.”

Perez had a standout amateur career culminating with a New England Golden Gloves title. As a pro, he made his debut earlier this year in Verona, New York with a first round TKO of Philadelphia’s Bardraiel Smith and followed up with another TKO later in the year over North Carolina’s Daron Hester.

Simms comes out of the same gym in New Jersey that has produced recent world title challenger John Thompson, winner of the 2015 ESPN Boxcino tournament, and promises to spoil Perez’ home state debut.

“Everyone can be champs in the gym but when you get in the ring and those lights come on you have to showout and showoff,” said Simms. “I’m looking forward to my pro debut”
